The opening is a hotel room and a hidden girl. Sydney planned the ultimate birthday surprise: on my 23rd birthday, I hid under a hotel bed, planning to give my fiancé the ultimate surprise, but the surprise was on me. Instead of her fiancé's delight, she hears him whispering to her own cousin: Vianna, you're amazing, I love you more than anyone else, then when are you going to dump Sydney? She is the one humiliated, hiding in the dark.
A stranger's voice turns it around. Roman Griffin, the most powerful man in the country, finds her and names the condition: break off your engagement with Damian and marry me. He explains the math: I need a wife for two years to secure my position, you need money. Sydney is stunned that he wants to marry her right after she was cheated on, but the Hamilton family is bankrupt and her only hope is gone.
The deal is signed, but it stops being professional fast. Sydney goes from betrayed fiancée to wife of the wealthiest man in the country overnight. Roman transfers funds to her company and buys out her rogue shareholders, while promising to be only acting. She tells him not to fall in love with her — and he answers that she is not his type. Then photos of Damian and Vianna leak, the whole internet turns on Sydney, and the man who swore to keep his distance makes it clear: no one is allowed to provoke her.

Our editors' notes on the opening arc — personal picks, not audience feedback.
The betrayal starts in the first minute: a birthday surprise under the hotel bed that backfires into catching her fiancé with her cousin. The betrayal is immediate, and the deal that follows is built on real stakes.
He needs a wife for two years, but he transfers funds to her company and buys out her rogue shareholders. The man who claims it is only business keeps proving it is personal.
She does not just accept. She asks why he would help, sets the terms of an obedient two years, and warns him not to fall for her. The power balance shifts fast.
Best for viewers who like contract-marriage CEO romance with a betrayed fiancée and a protector husband; if you need a brooding villain lead, this one spoils her by episode five. Compared with most fake-marriage shorts, the deal rescues her bankrupt family rather than trapping her — that protective angle is both its strength and its limit.
